A research scholarship for a candidate holding a Master degree is open, for 3 months, in the framework of  the Project with reference CERN/FIS-INS/0013/2021 entitled “ Participation in RD51 Collaboration at CERN ”, financed by national funds ( OE) through the Foundation for Science and Technology, I.P.

ADDF – Associação para o Desenvolvimento do Departamento de Física, a nonprofit private organization, part of the National Scientific and Technological System, opens a call for a scholarship grant to hire a Master for 3 months. The hiring process will be ruled by Portuguese legislation, under Law   n.º 40/2004, of August 18, modified by Decree-Law n.º 202/2012, of August 27, by Decree-Law n.º 233/2012, of October 29, by Law n.º 12/2013, of January 29, by Decree-Law n.º 89/2013, of July 9, and by Decree-Law n.º 123/2019, of August 28 (Estatuto do Bolseiro de Investigação); Regulamento de Bolsas de Investigação da FCT,l.P. was approved on the December 16 of 2019, which full text is available at:

Skills/Qualifications

Admission requirements:

The candidate must hold a: Master's degree in Physics Engineering and be enrolled in a doctorate or non-academic course, integrated in an educational project of a higher education institution, developed in associations or cooperation with one or more R&D units.

The proof of enrollment must be completed until the contract is signed, and the candidate may attach a declaration of commitment to honor that he/she meets the requirements for enrollment in a Doctorate or non-degree awarding course.

 


Specific Requirements

Work Plan:

The candidate will be responsible for supporting tasks within this project, including:

Study of the charge gain and scintillation characteristics of the COBRA-125 and GEM microstructures, operating in different gases, coupled to the array of Hamamatsu S13361-3050 SiPMs.

 Workplace: The activities will be carried out at LIBPhys-UC facilities (Polo I) and/or in other places necessary for the execution of the work plan, under the scientific guidance of Cristina Maria Bernardes Monteiro, Assistant Researcher of FCTUC

Benefits

Duration of the fellowship: The fellowship will last for 3 months, starting on July 1 and ending on September 30, 2024.

Amount of the monthly maintenance subsidy: The amount of the scholarship corresponds to €1,259.64, according to the table of scholarship values awarded by FCT, I.P. in the country:

In addition to this value, the researcher is entitled to the reimbursement of the Seguro Social Voluntário (Voluntary Social Security) if he/she chooses and if there is legal framework. The candidate will also benefit from a personal insurance.

 Scholarship payments will be made monthly by bank transfer.


Eligibility criteria

Evaluation and selection process:

The selection of the scholarship holder to be hired will be made through the evaluation of the candidate's absolute merit, focusing on the relevance, quality, timeliness and suitability of the candidate for the functions to be performed, according to the following evaluation factors and weightings:

● adequacy of the candidate's profile to the needs of the project (50/100);

● experience in the area of the tasks to be developed (25/100);

● motivation and autonomy (25/100).

 Composition of the Selection Jury:

The Jury will be composed of:

  - Doutora Cristina Maria Bernardes Monteiro, President of the Jury Assistant Researcher at Physics Department of FCTUC.

- Prof. Doutor Joaquim Marques Ferreira dos Santos , Full Professor at Physics Department of FCTUC;

- Prof. Doutor Carlos Alberto de Oliveira Henriques, Assistant Researcher at Physics Department of FCTUC.


Selection process

Formalization of applications: Applicants must formalize their application by sending a digital copy (in pdf format) of the following documents to the Principal Investigator of the project:

1) Letter of application, addressed to the Principal Investigator, including reference to the advertisement (Research Scholarship for Masters – ADDF), full name, date and place of birth, address, email address and contact telephone number.

2) Letter of motivation for the functions to be performed;

3) Master's certificate or diploma;

4) Curriculum Vitae

5) Documents proving enrollment in a doctorate or non-academic course, as part of an educational project of a higher education institution, developed in associations or cooperation with one or more R&D units, Exceptionally, proof of enrollment must be submitted until contractualization, and the candidate may add a declaration of commitment of honor in which he/she meets the requirements for registration in a Doctorate or non-degree-conferring course.

6) Other documents that they deem relevant for the evaluation of their scientific and curricular path.

7) Personal data form and Declaration of Consent for Communication of Results via e-mail (see form below), and, - Declaration, under oath, on how you meet the conditions for the attribution of this Scholarship (use the model below ).

Application period: The competition is open from 13 to 31 May, 2024.

Additional information:

The results of the evaluation will be announced by June 7, 2024, by sending a communication to the candidates, via email. After the publication of the results, the candidates will be notified so that, if they wish, they can express their opinion at a prior hearing within a maximum period of 10 working days after that date. After this period, the selected candidates will have to declare, in writing, their acceptance and communicate the effective start date of the scholarship. Unless reasonable justification is presented, failure to provide the statement within the aforementioned period is equivalent to waiver of the scholarship. In case of resignation or withdrawal of the selected candidate, the candidate with the highest ranking will be notified.
