We seek a highly motivated and enthusiastic PhD student or a PhD student candidate at the Department of Pharmacognosy with Medicinal Plants Garden, Medical University of Lublin (UMLUB). The position of a PhD-student is available for a period of three (3) years. The position is part of the project: ”The isolation of phenolic components of Zingiber officinale extracts and the assessment of their anticonvulsant activity in in vivo models”, financed by the NCN (National Science Centre). Principal Investigator (PI) is Prof. Wirginia Kukuła-Koch.

The planned period of implementation of tasks for the Scholarship Holder in the project is 36 months.

WORK TASKS

Carrying out the practical laboratory work described in the project:

  • Preparation of plant extracts, optimization of the extraction process of plant material in terms of the recovery of phenolic compounds
  • Research on the composition of extracts based on HPLC-DAD and HPLC-QTOF-MS / MS techniques
  • Quantitative analysis of the obtained extracts by the HPLC-DAD and HPLC-Q-MS techniques
  • Fractionation of plant extracts and isolation of single metabolites by countercurrent, flash and preparative chromatographs.
  • Studies on the anticonvulsant activity of fractions and isolated compounds.
  • Cooperation with all members of the Project Team (the project will be carried out in various units of the Medical University of Lublin and the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin)
  • Presentation of research results at the team's scientific meetings.
  • Active participation in scientific conferences, trainings, research internships and program of the Doctoral School.
  • Systematic and organized work in a research team in a close cooperation with the Project Manager and other employees implementing the grant.
  • The PhD student will work in close collaboration with the second PhD student, the PI, and colleagues from associated research teams. This position requires skills in the natural products chemistry, combined with an open personality and good social skills. We provide a stimulating, international and interdisciplinary research environment.
