Position: PhD candidate scholarship in the project “Key odorants selection based on their kinetic and degradation with the atmospheric components within the prediction of odorous range of wastewater treatment plants.”
Requirements:
- MSc in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering or equivalent discipline.
- Theoretical and practical knowledge in the field of analytical chemistry, especially in a gas chromatography couple with mass spectrometry.
- Fluent English knowledge.
- Ability to work in a team.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, ability to work in a team and gain new knowledge as well as excellent communication skills.
Tasks to be performed:
- In situ odour and odorants emission sampling.
- Sample preparation and analysis.
- Sensory analysis using GC-MS/Olfactory detection port system.
- Analytical methods development for odorants identification and quantification.
- Odorants kinetics in the atmosphere modelling.
- Analysis of the experimental data.
- Contribution to writing scientific papers.
- Active participation in lab meetings, scientific seminars and international conferences.

Conditions of employment:
A successful applicant will work with dr eng. Radosław Barczak (Principal Investigator and PhD candidate co-supervisor) and prof. Tomasz Gierczak (as a PhD candidate supervisor) on the project titled “Key odorants selection based on their kinetic and degradation with the atmospheric components within the prediction of odorous range of wastewater treatment plants.” The 3-year position will be founded by Polish National Science Center (NCN) OPUS research grant (2021/41/B/ST8/03440). The project will be carried out at the Faculty of Chemistry, University of Warsaw. Generous founding for travel and excellent working condition environment is secured.
Founding: Scholarship in the total amount of 5000PLN/month, gross. The scholarship will top up the scholarship from Doctoral Schools. The scholarship is regulated by the NCN rules
Scholarship duration: 3 years, paid according to NCN regulations for OPUS project for the PhD students.

Additional information:
- The scholarship will be awarded in accordance with the NCN regulations: "Rules of granting scholarships to young scientists in research projects" (Annex to Resolution No 25/2019 of the NCN Council, 14.03.2019)
- The commission evaluates applications on a point scale. The scholarship will be awarded to the person who obtains the highest number of points.
- If the top candidate will not sign the contract, due to the resignation, we reserve the right to choose the next candidate from the ranking list.
- The entity reserves the right not to settle the competition if the Selection Committee finds that none of the Candidates meets the tasks specified in the competition.
