Offer Description
This is NTNU

NTNU is a broad-based university with a technical-scientific profile and a focus in professional education. The university is located in three cities with headquarters in Trondheim.

At NTNU, 9,000 employees and 43,000 students work to create knowledge for a better world.

You will find more information about working at NTNU and the application process here.

Department of Clinical and Molecular Medicine (IKOM), NTNU has a vacancy for PhD Position within CAG-IBD Precision medicine in inflammatory bowel diseases.

About the job

The PhD position will be part of the Clinical Academic Group (CAG)-Precision medicine in IBD , a major Health authority and University supported initiative that unites physicians in the region and experienced IBD researchers into one joint group for patient-focused translational research.

The PhD candidate will mainly work within the Cell and Molecular Biology research unit  on a project funded by the Research Council of Norway:  Intestinal epithelial cells: Central coordinators in Inflammatory Bowel Disease and targets for treatment.

The project has a genuine translational approach focusing on systematic clinical observations in parallel with research on patient specific epithelial organoids (“mini-guts”) that can reproduce patient heterogeneity. We perform state-of the art functional studies and evaluate approved and investigational IBD-drugs as treatment options targeting observed physical, biochemical, and immunological intestinal epithelial dysfunctions. The ambition for the project is to bring forward detailed mechanistic knowledge about disease mechanisms in IBD that can facilitate precision medicine.

We are looking for a highly motivated PhD candidate with some experience in working with cell-based models/organoids, microscopy, methods in molecular biology or omics-based technology and analyses, and who is interested in studying disease related mechanisms in a translational research team.

For a position as a PhD Candidate, the goal is a completed doctoral education up to an obtained doctoral degree.
