About the position

A position is available for a highly motivated and skilled candidate to join us as PhD scholar at the Faculty of Teacher Education and Languages, Østfold University College. The Faculty is located in Halden and has in total about 2700 students and 215 employees. The faculty has three departments and the PhD scholar will be associated with the Department of Education, ICT and Learning which offers a Master’s degree in Special Education. In addition, we expect to launch our PhD program Digitalisation and Society in the course of 2023, and the PhD candidate recruited for this position is planned to be admitted to this program.

You will be part of the research group Development Learning and Psychological Processes (DeveLeP) where the working language is Norwegian and English. The PhD position is a full time (100%) fixed term position for 3 years and fully funded by Østfold University College. We have strong cross-disciplinary collaborations within the University College and with leading international universities and facilities.

About the PhD project

The project involves enhancing learning and inclusion opportunities for students with neurodevelopmental conditions through the use of auditory technological and digital aids. A special focus will be on conditions such as autism and ADHD.

Your primary tasks will be to

  • plan and manage your PhD project in collaboration with your supervisors
  • recruitment of participants for the project
  • manage and conduct the studies  

Qualification requirements

The successful candidate is required to have:

  • Completed a Master’s degree or second degree (equivalent to 120 credits) or similar degree with an academic level equivalent to a two-year master's degree in education, special education, psychology, or related fields.
  • The grade of the Master thesis must be B or better in terms of the Norwegian grading scale
  • Fluent oral and written communication skills in English.
  • For international candidates (outside of EU/EEA area), approved TOEFL English proficiency test with min score 90 or IELTS test with min. score 7.5.
  • Ability to work in a project team and take responsibility for own research goals

Emphasis will be placed on the following:

  • Prior academic and/or research performance
  • Prior relevant work experience (if applicable)
  • The applicant’s own ideas of research themes and research design that would be relevant for the project

Admission and appointment

The candidate is planned to apply for admission to the PhD programme Digitalisation and Society at Østfold University College, which is expected to launch during 2023.

The appointment is to be made in accordance with the State Employees law, the act relating to Universities and Universities Colleges and the National guidelines for appointment as a PhD student, a postdoctoral fellow or research assistants


We offer
  • PhD Candidates (code 1017) are remunerated with a gross annual salary of minimum NOK 501 200. In addition to taxes, a further 2% is deducted for the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.
