Faculty of Social Sciences offers study programmes within archivistics, library and information science, journalism and media studies, social work, social policy and child welfare, public management and business. The faculty has about 4200 students and nearly 280 members of staff.
Oslo Business School has approximately 1700 students and 70 employees and offers study programmes both at Bachelor and Master level, as well as a wide range of continuing and further education.
The Oslo Business School has a vacancy for a temporary position for a PhD candidate in Finance. The position is connected to the PhD program in Social Sciences . The finance and accounting group of the Oslo Business School is a vibrant and diverse group consisting of international researchers that is regularly publishing in a wide variety of academic journals.
We are looking for a highly motivated PhD candidate that has an interest in undertaking challenging and rigorous research. Besides a background in finance, we also welcome applicants with an education in economics or econometrics.
About the position
The PhD candidate will be employed by the Oslo Metropolitan University for a total of four years full time. In total, 75% of the position’s time will be dedicated to the completion of the PhD research while 25% to the time will be dedicated to acquisition of academic skills through teaching courses and assisting with supervising theses or grading.
The position will be affiliated with the finance and accounting group at the Oslo Business School, which is located in downtown Oslo. The PhD candidate can choose topics of his/her own interest, in consultation with the supervisor. Our faculty has particular strengths in the following areas:
- asset management, financial markets, sustainable finance
- corporate finance theory, empirical corporate finance, corporate governance
- banking and financial intermediation, financial regulation, FinTech
- household finance, behavioural finance
Qualification requirements
We are looking for candidates who meet the following requirements:
- excellent MSc (120 credits/ECTS) in Finance, Quantitative Finance, Business Administration, Economics, Econometrics, or similar degree in related fields. We also welcome applications from candidates close to finishing their degree.
- strong interest in research on finance.
- hands-on mentality and the ability to work independently.
- strong personal skills
- excellent communication skills in English, both verbally and in written form.
In addition, experience from research projects and publishing in academic journals will be an advantage, as is experience with quantitative research.
Admission to the doctoral programme is a prerequisite. Applicants to this program must have a B or better on the master's thesis and an average grade B or better on the master's degree.
Admission to the doctoral program is based on a comprehensive assessment of the application, including the relevance and quality of the project description. A final project plan for the fellowship period is required to be completed and approved within three months after admittance to the post.

- research proposal of 4 pages for the PhD-dissertation.
- CV including a summary of master’s thesis and previous scholarly work including conference presentations.
- certificates/diplomas for bachelor’s and master’s degrees. The certificates/diplomas must include ECTS grades (A–F). Foreign diplomas must be translated into English by the degree-conferring institution. Education taken abroad should preferably be recognised in advance by NOKUT , and a confirmed copy of the letter of recognition should be enclosed.

The salary for the position is in accordance with the pay scale for Norwegian state employees, PhD candidate and position code 1017 – the state salary wage scale 54, which is 532 200 NOK per year.
