The Western Norway University of Applied Sciences
With about 17,500 students, Western Norway University of Applied Sciences is one of the largest higher education institutions in Norway. A broad range of academic programmes are offered at Bachelor, Master and PhD levels, spread out on five campuses Førde, Sogndal, Bergen, Stord og Haugesund.

The aim is to become a recognized actor on the international higher education arena. Increased international cooperation and engagement in externally funded projects will work towards this goal.
The Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences (FØS) has three departments: the Department of Business Administration, the Department of Maritime Studies and the Department of Social Sciences. In total there are approx. 140 academic staff at the faculty and more than 2700 students on three campuses: Bergen, Haugesund and Sogndal.
The faculty currently has elleven bachelor's programs and four master's programs. The faculty is the host faculty for the doctoral program RESINNREG in collaboration with the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences and the Faculty of Health and Social Sciences. The faculty has a doctoral program in nautical operations which is a joint degree with the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), the Norwegian Arctic University (UiT) and the University of Southeast Norway (USN).
The Department of Business Administration at HVL has about 100 employees and 1,500 students. The department is located on three campuses: Bergen, Haugesund and Sogndal. The department has six bachelor's programs and two master's programs.
The Western Norway University of Applied Sciences has up to two PhD fellowships available within Marketing and Innovation. The positions is affiliated to The Department of Business Administration, Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences
The aim of the PhD fellowship position is a completed doctoral education up to an approved doctorate. The PhD fellow will be part of the PhD programme within a period of 4 years. 25% of the workload is to be dedicated towards teaching and administrative work at HVL.
The PhD fellow is expected to participate in the professional environment and contribute to an active research environment in HVL and on campus.
Both positions are based at the Sogndal campus.
About the positions:
The PhD fellowship positions will be part of the PhD program «Responsible Innovation and Regional Development» (RESINNREG) in Western Norway University of Applied Sciences. RESINNREG is a cross-disciplinary PhD program investigating how innovations can meet environmental and social challenges in addition to economic tasks in regional contexts, read more about the program her e.
The positions as PhD fellow in marketing and innovation at the Department of Economics and Administration, will be linked to the faculty's research group within Marketing, tourism and innovation .
Key duties and responsibilities:
Applicants for the positions should be interested in researching how new and innovative technologies affect important marketing activities and their connection to sustainable consumer behavior and the companies performance. How psychological factors such as identity, acceptance, innovativeness etc influence customer behavior are relevant topics. Potential projects should explore synergies between new and innovative technologies, psychological factors and marketing activities along the value chain, including strategy and planning - the rationale behind and alignment with customers' expectations and behaviour.
We are looking for highly motivated candidates with a strong interest in publishing research in national and international journals, and in participating in conferences.
It is a prerequisite that the project is designed so that the PhD candidate will be admitted to the PhD program Responsible Innovation and Regional Development (RESINNREG). The supervisor will, together with the candidate, draw up a detailed plan for the research training, which will be linked to admission to the PhD programme. Applications for admission to the doctoral program are to be sent after the appointment. As a general rule, the candidate should qualify to be admitted to the RESINNREG program within 3 months of appointment.
Qualifications:
Required qualifications:
- Applicants should have a master's degree within the academic area of the program, for example Master of Science in Business. Other master's degrees with high relevance to the subject area can also be considered
- The candidate must also have written a master’s thesis of at least 30 ECTS or equivalent
- The master’s thesis must be submitted for assessment by the application deadline, and the masters’ degree must be approved no later than 4 weeks after the application deadline
- Applicants must meet the requirements for admission to the PhD program RESINNREG. Admission will normally require a grade of B or better for the master's thesis and an average of C or better for the study part
- Proficiency in written and spoken english is required. Competency in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language will be considered beneficial

Project description:
The application must contain a project description of up to five pages, explaining the topic, the problem, the choice of theory and method, as well as the plan for the implementation of a potential project. This preliminary project description will be used in the assessment of the candidate's qualifications and is not the final project description.
The following qualification will be particularly emphasized:
- Academic qualification within the research area
- Quality of the master’s thesis (grade A and grade B on Master thesis)
- Quality of the project description
- Additional scientific publications

Initial salaries will be offered at grade 54 (code 1017) in the Sivil Service pay grade table scale.
