About the position

The Faculty of biosciences and aquaculture (Nord University), announces a 3 year PhD position (100%). The position addresses ongoing research on fish nutrition, feed and developmental/behaviour biology on spotted wolffish.

The position is available from March 2022, is linked to the aquaculture research group and is connected to the project “Cross-border innovations in Arctic aquaculture” (ARCTAQUA) financed by the Kolarctic CBC program. The ARCTAQUA project has eight partners from Norway, Sweden, Finland and Russia.


Qualification requirements
  • The candidate needs a master degree within aquaculture or biology
  • Practical experience from egg incubation, start feeding and/or on-growth is an advantage
  • Knowledge within fish nutrition will be prioritized
  • Experience with several of the following analytical methods/areas is an advantage: chemical analysis (HPLC, GC), fish feed development, histology, blood chemistry, endocrinology or physiology
  • Grade average of B or better (or equivalent score) both for the programme in total and the master’s thesis
  • Analytical skills and good knowledge about research methods relevant to the proposed project
  • The candidate needs good oral and written English Communication skills and the ability to work independently and in teams
  • The candidate should fulfill the admission requirements and participate in the training component stipulated in regulations of the PhD program

  • Themes and perspectives from the applicant's master's degree will be given weight in the assessment of candidates. Project sketch with description of project idea and plan for implementation
  • Personal suitability and motivation for the position
  • The applicant's description of motivation for doctoral work and opportunities for implementation. Relevant experience from research work will count positively
  • The applicant's motivation to apply for the position

The annual salary for doctoral researchers (code 1017) is set at wage level 54, LR 20, NOK 491 200,- in the Norwegian State Salary Scale.
