About the job

For a position as a PhD Candidate, the goal is a completed doctoral education up to an obtained doctoral degree.

The candidate will work on the development of statistical methods to assess the restoration of degraded habitats. The candidate will develop an approach based on Generalized Linear Latent Variable Models to model the dynamics of response to restoration, so we can predict when a community will have returned to a restored state. This approach will need to be applicable to real data, so we will explore how to empirically define a restored state.

The candidate will be able to interact with ecologists and statisticians to use these models, including with applied ecologists at NINA (https://www.nina.no/english ), and will be able to explore using this approach to a wider range of problems associated with responses of ecosystems to human impacts.

The supervisor is Prof. Bob O’Hara.

Duties of the position
  •  Develop statistical methods to help in restoration ecology.
  • Collaborate with ecologists on testing and refining the methods.
  • Work with other members of the Gjærevoll Centre to apply the methods.

If you have a weaker grade background, you may be assessed if you can document that you are particularly suitable for a PhD education.
  • Master's students can apply, but the master's degree must be obtained and documented before starting the position.
  • You must meet the requirements for admission to the PhD programme in mathematical sciences .

The appointment is to be made in accordance with Regulations on terms of employment for positions such as postdoctoral fellow, Phd candidate, research assistant and specialist candidate and Regulations concerning the degrees of Philosophiae Doctor (PhD) and Philosodophiae Doctor (PhD) in artistic research national guidelines for appointment as PhD, post doctor and research assistant
