Tenure: ·  The scholarship will initially be up to one year of full-time study or, if less than one year, for the duration of the programme. For a programme of less than 120pts (Full-time academic year) the $5,000 award may be pro-rata. ·  Previous recipients may apply again in subsequent years of the same programme of study.

This scholarship is generously donated by the TPT Group. TPT Group was formed in 1999 and has a proven track record of successfully integrating and establishing businesses, providing the right experience, structure and resources, to facilitate growth. TPT Group is already involved with AUT by supporting the TPT Group Bachelor of Business Scholarship.   TPT Group has social conscience and support a number of community initiatives including Lifewise a not-for-profit community and social development agency that provides critical services to vulnerable and at-risk people of all ages.

TPT and Auckland University of Technology (AUT) will partner to encourage and support young people struggling with mental health who are experiencing financial hardhsip to continue their educational career.

Selection criteria:
  • 1. Acceptance into a programme of study at AUT or currently enrolled in an undergraduate programme at AUT. 2. Able to demonstrate they are experiencing financial hardship and have a diagnosed mental illness for which they are receiving or have received treatment. 3. Preparedness to learn and to commit to both the programme of study and to the work experience. If the recipient hasn’t achieved University Entrance or doesn’t meet the academic entry requirements for a bachelor’s degree or needs to build confidence before starting a bachelor’s degree they will be encouraged to follow a Foundation Study Pathway, supported by this scholarship.

How do students apply?
Applications are via the AUT online scholarship application portal.  Applicants must complete the online application and will be asked to upload: 1. Academic transcripts for study not completed at AUT. 2. Personal statement in any media (including but not limited to video, essay, letter) as to personal story around mental health journey (see eligibility) and financial hardship.

TPT in consultation with AUT will award the scholarship based on the following conditions: 1. Acceptance into a programme of study at AUT. 2. Preparedness to learn and to commit to both the programme of study and to the work experience.

How and when do students learn of the decision?
Applicants will be notified of the outcome by the University Scholarships Office as soon as possible after the panel have made their decisions.

What conditions are attached to acceptance of this award?
If a Foundation Pathway programme of less than 120pts (one year full-time study) is selected the value of the award may be reduced. The recipient will meet the programme attendance requirements and submit all assessments on time. The nominee will meet with. Student Financial Services to discuss Student loans and allowances (StudyLink) and budget planning The nominee will seek timely assistance from Scholar Support and the AUT Learning Advisors  with any difficulties that may arise with the programme of study. The nominee will seek immediate help from Student Wellbeing and Health with any health or well-being issues. The nominee may be asked to act as a mentor for other nominees after their first year of study.

Additional information
The Scholarship consists of: Up to a $5,000 award to assist with tuition fees at AUT or course or living costs for the duration of the scholarship, as decided by the student. Part-time employment with a TPT Group company in order to assist the recipient to gain relevant work experience.  In the event that TPT Group do not have relevant work experience for the qualification sought by the recipient, TPT Group will be responsible for finding alternative paid work experience. The employment would be organised by the TPT Group and would be for a minimum of four hours a week – on the condition that this does not interfere with student’s programme of study. Employment may also be available for holiday periods if the student is enrolled in a full year programme. The use of a laptop for the duration of the scholarship. If the recipient successfully completes the agreed qualification ownership of the laptop will be transferred to the student.
