Description

The Robinson Research Institute comprises a multidisciplinary team of scientists and engineers engaged in globally-significant projects with partner organisations from around the world. Students studying for a 12 month Master of Engineering by thesis at the Robinson Institute work closely alongside our professional research engineers and scientists, who provide one-on-one supervision to address a specific technical problem. Each project is set within one of our world-class research programmes on: superconducting magnet engineering, electromagnetic sensing or high-temperature materials processing. As well as developing an in-depth understanding of their own project topic, students also gain hands-on experience in a range of key engineering skills such as computer-aided design (CAD), automation/instrumentation hardware, programming, and finite-element modelling.


History

Full fees scholarships are available for excellent students studying for a one-year Master of Engineering by thesis (MEng) degree at the Robinson Research Institute at Victoria University of Wellington. The purpose of this scholarship is to enable recent science and engineering graduates to develop a range of key industry-ready engineering skills, whilst pursuing their own individually-tailored research project.


Eligibility

An application to enrol in the next cohort of MEng students is required by 15 July 2020.

Individuals holding an undergraduate honours degrees in Physics, Materials science, Engineering, or a related subject are encouraged to apply. Applicants must satisfy the requirements for admission as a Masters of Engineering by Thesis candidate to Victoria University of Wellington.

Application process

A completed online application must be submitted by 4.30 pm on the closing date. Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted. Any required supporting documentation (including references) must also be received by 4.30 pm on the closing date in order for the application to be considered.

Selection process

The successful recipients will be selected by the Robinson Research Institute Scholarship Committee.


Additional information

These scholarships will comprise tuition fees for one year (domestic fees for the thesis component only). Fees will be paid directly to the University. International students other than those from Australia will be liable to pay the difference between the full international student fee and the domestic fee.


Regulations and conditions

  • All offers of the Scholarship will be conditional upon the recipient being fully enrolled in a full-year programme (full-time will be at the level of points considered by Studylink as full-time) within the stipulated criteria and tenure of the scholarship. No payment of the Scholarship will be made until this condition is met.
  • Candidates should satisfy the requirements for admission as a Master of Engineering candidate at Victoria University. They will also need to sign a Victoria Research Scholarship Contract and the Student Intellectual Property Agreement.
  • The Scholarship may be held in conjunction with other awards.
  • Should the recipient withdraw from Victoria University of Wellington during the tenure of this scholarship or fail to achieve a satisfactory progress, partial repayment of the Scholarship will normally be expected. Recipients must advise the Scholarships Office if they intend to withdraw.
  • Recipients are expected to act as ambassadors for Victoria University of Wellington and participate in appropriate events or marketing if requested.
  • At the discretion of the Deciding Authority, the application of the terms and conditions of the Scholarship may be modified in special circumstances or to avoid hardship to any candidate for the Scholarship.
