Tēnā koe. Nau mai ki te Kuratini Tuwhera.

The Open Polytechnic is Aotearoa New Zealand's leading distance and online learning provider. We are a subsidiary of Te Pūkenga (New Zealand Institute of Skills and Technology). We specialise in taking the learning to our students, focused on enabling the success of approximately 30,000 students each year. We offer a wide range of learning disciplines and ensure our students are at the heart of everything we do, every step of the way. We're a place where you can make a difference.

About the role

The Digital Experience (DX) team are seeking a Project Lead to join us on a 21-month fixed term agreement and build upon our current Project Lead capacity and skillsets.

The DX team produces digital media for Open Polytechnic online courses, commercial partners, and other internal departments (e.g., Marketing and Communications). This role focuses on digital media for online courses, which we create in collaboration with teams of Learning Designers.

There are a variety of courses being developed and a number of associated media projects coming our way. You'll be responsible for daily DX team engagement across these projects, performing in a friendly, supportive and productive team environment. You'll handle project planning and expectations, problem solving, project allocation and scheduling, project oversight, and progress reporting.

About you

You're creative, curious and collaborative. You take an agile approach to project leadership and management. You use initiative to anticipate challenges and find solutions. You're a plain speaking professional, while being considerate of others. You have excellent skills using project management applications. You're also super keen to learn more. In fact, we're all about supporting your development on the job.

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • Capability to lead and project manage by collaborating with a diverse range of kaimahi.
  • Skills to collect, collate and clearly communicate project requirements.
  • 'Nous' to innovate and continually improve processes and practices.
  • Experience in managing schedules and resources within budget.
  • Confidence using project management tools/applications.
  • A working knowledge of learning design principles and practices.
  • A relevant tertiary qualification or certification in project management.
  • 3-5 years' experience in project leadership, project management and/or information systems.

Even though we are focused on online distance learning, it is a role with plenty of face-to-face interaction. You will primarily be based at our campus in Lower Hutt, while also having the flexibility to work from home and connect with our kaimahi digitally.

About us

The DX team are a dedicated crew of experienced digital designers, videographers, animators, and user experience designers. We produce a wide range of digital media solutions for online delivery, including interactives, video (live action, animation, and motion graphics), plus more traditional graphic design (infographics, illustration, photography etc). We are also taking our first steps into Extended Reality (XR) research and prototyping for vocational education.

This is reflective of our continued drive to learn and develop new media solutions for our learners. We thrive on creative challenges of all scales, focused on effective learning and engagement. We design and develop for the end-to-end learning experience, rather than components in isolation. And we do it all with a good natured, team based and human-centred approach.

The Open Polytechnic is a specialist provider of vocational open and distance learning. Our values are Bold, Fast, True, Smart and Together. We contribute to an integrated national system of lifelong learning, to develop an independent, skilled, and internationally competitive workforce. We have an enviable reputation in the vocational sector.

We offer our people free education (and 50% off for whānau), free car parking on campus, flexible working options, a modern work environment, subsidised school holiday programmes for your children, free fitness classes, and an on-site café.

If this role sounds like you, we would love to hear from you. Applications must be submitted online via our career's website. Contact Kerry Deane at [email protected]  with any questions about the role.
