Description

These scholarships have been established by the Faculties of Humanities & Social Sciences and Education to support returning students with their accommodation costs.


History

The Humanities, Social Sciences and Education Accommodation Scholarships have been established to support undergraduate and postgraduate returning students at Victoria University of Wellington for the 2022 academic year with their accommodation costs. It is intended the scholarship will support students who would otherwise be unable to continue their studies due to financial reasons.


Eligibility

Applications are open to all returning undergraduate and postgraduate students who are currently enrolled at Te Herenga Waka -Victoria University of Wellington, including domestic and international.


Criteria
  • Undergraduate applicants must be enrolled full time in a Bachelor of Arts, Communication, Education or Music at Victoria University of Wellington.
  • Graduate or postgraduate applicants must be enrolled full time in a Bachelor of Arts with Honours or a Master’s degree offered by the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences or Faculty of Education at Victoria University of Wellington.
  • Postgraduate Diploma applicants must be enrolled  full time in a Graduate Diploma in Teaching or Graduate Diploma in Arts programme by the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences or Faculty of Education at Victoria University of Wellington.
  • Applicants must be living in a University hall of residence for the 2022 academic year.
  • Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of satisfactory academic commitment and progress, and financial hardship.

Application process

A completed online application must be submitted by 4.30 pm on the closing date. Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted. Any required supporting documentation (including references) must also be received by 4.30 pm on the closing date in order for the application to be considered.

Selection process

The successful recipients will be selected by the Victoria University of Wellington Undergraduate Scholarship Committee.


Additional information

Applicants must have submitted an application for accommodation by 1 October to be considered.

Successful recipients must be staying in a Victoria University of Wellington Hall of Residence for the 2022 academic year.


Regulations and conditions
  • A completed online application must be submitted by 4.30 pm on the closing date. Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted. Any required supporting documentation (including references) must also be received by 4:30pm on the closing date in order for the application to be considered.
  • All offers of the Scholarship will be conditional upon the recipient being fully enrolled in a full-year programme (full-time will be at the level of points considered by Studylink as full-time) within the stipulated criteria and tenure of the scholarship. No payment of the Scholarship will be made until this condition is met.
  • The Scholarship cannot be deferred to a later year.
  • The Scholarship may be held in conjunction with other awards.
  • Should the recipient withdraw from Victoria University of Wellington during the tenure of this scholarship or fail to achieve a satisfactory progress, partial repayment of the Scholarship will normally be expected. Recipients must advise the Scholarships Office if they intend to withdraw.
  • Recipients are expected to act as Ambassadors for Victoria University of Wellington and participate in appropriate events or marketing if requested.
  • At the discretion of the Deciding Authority, the application of the terms and conditions of the Scholarship may be modified in special circumstances or to avoid hardship to any candidate for the Scholarship.
