In conjunction with a generous donation from the Trilogy International Foundation, Auckland University of Technology (AUT) is pleased to be able to offer a scholarship to Māori and Pacific students in the Bachelor of Business Studies to support their accommodation in an AUT Hall of Residence.

The aim of the Eric and Kathy Hertz Residential Scholarships is to offer financial assistance for Māori or Pacific students residing in an AUT Hall of Residence.


Selection criteria:
  • All applicants for these scholarships must: • Be New Zealand citizens or permanent residents. • Be of Māori or Pasifika descent. • Have a provisional offer of place for full-time study or be enrolling in the second or subsequent year in an undergraduate programme in the AUT Business School. • Intend to reside in an AUT Hall of Residence.

How do students apply?
Applicants must complete the AUT on-line scholarship application form available from the link above from 1 November and upload: • A written statement outlining how this scholarship would benefit the applicant. • A copy of their Year 12 NCEA Record of Achievement or equivalent if applicant is new to AUT. The University Scholarships Office will upload transcripts for current AUT students. • A copy of the AUT provisional offer of place if applicant is new to AUT. • Applicants must nominate two referees’ in the application portal who can support their application.

Decision makers
• Recipients will be selected by the scholarship selection panel, comprising the Business School Deputy Dean and the Friends of AUT Inc. • The decision of the scholarship selection panel is final. • If the panel is of opinion that there is no applicant of sufficient merit, the scholarship will not be awarded.

How and when do students learn of the decision?
Recipients must write a letter to the Hertz family trust at the end of Semester 2 outlining the academic progress they have made during the year of tenure and submit this to the Scholarships Office by 1 December of the year of award.

What conditions are attached to acceptance of this award?

Additional information
The value of the scholarship is around NZD10,000 (depending on the US/NZ exchange rate at the time of offer).
