What we're looking for:

We are seeking a Post-Doctoral Fellow to further develop the New Zealand Earth System Model (NZESM). In collaboration with domestic and international partners, you will advance the representation of linkages between clouds and aerosols and possibly other climate-composition linkages in the model. The position will involve analysing observational data, casting understanding of these data into process-level formulations and implementing these into the atmosphere component of the NZESM. Over the next two years you will work alongside a team of specialists with expertise in climate dynamics, climate physics, atmospheric chemistry, and ocean dynamics. There are strong linkages with international partners with whom you can expect to interact.

What you will bring:

  • PhD or equivalent experience in a relevant aspect of Atmospheric Science, Meteorology, Climatology, Physics, Chemistry or Mathematics
  • A track record of research in Physical Sciences
  • A high level of computer literacy including familiarity with programming languages (esp. FORTRAN, Python), with experience in statistical data analysis beneficial
  • Experience with the Unified Model would be particularly valuable
  • A proven ability to work in a team environment, to develop positive working relationships, and to be adaptable, focused, well-organised, and solution-oriented
