Description

This scholarship has been established by the Centre for Science in Society, Victoria University of Wellington, aimed at supporting students studying toward the newly-established major in Science Communication.

Preference will be given to applicants from groups traditionally under-represented in the sciences.


Eligibility

This scholarship offer is conditional on the recipient gaining University Entrance and being fully enrolled in a Bachelor of Communication majoring in Science Communication or a Bachelor of Science majoring in Science Communication. Applicants will be assessed on academic merit, their personal statement and their character reference.


Criteria
  • Applicants must be New Zealand Citizens or Permanent Residents
  • Applicants must be intending to enroll for a Bachelor of Communications majoring in Science Communication OR a Bachelor of Science majoring in Science Communication

Application process

A completed online application must be submitted by 4.30 pm on the closing date. Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted. Any required supporting documentation (including references) must also be received by 4.30 pm on the closing date in order for the application to be considered.

Scholarship specific documentation
  • A 300 - 500 word personal statement outlining your motivation for studying Science Communication
  • An uploaded copy of your academic transcript of Level 2 NCEA results (or the equivalent in another qualification)
  • A letter of recommendation or character reference - to be request via the online application

Selection process

A shortlist of eligible applicants will be drawn up by an internal panel consisting of nominees from the Centre for Science in Society on the basis of the applicants' academic merit, character reference and one-page personal statement. The successful candidate will be chosen by the same internal panel.


Additional information

The successful recipient of this scholarship will receive the value of this scholarship ($2,000) paid towards their tuition fees.


Regulations and conditions

  • All offers of the Scholarship will be conditional upon the recipient being fully enrolled in a full-year programme (full-time will be at the level of points considered by Studylink as full-time) within the stipulated criteria and tenure of the scholarship. No payment of the Scholarship will be made until this condition is met.
  • The Scholarship cannot be deferred to a later year.
  • The Scholarship may be held in conjunction with other awards.
