Faculty of Business, Economics and Law (BEL), Auckland University of Technology (AUT), provides Postgraduate Māori Scholarships to encourage postgraduate study and to recognise student academic achievement

AUT BEL Postgraduate Scholarship Karahipi Māori is available to full-time students undertaking postgraduate programmes of study in BEL in eligible Professional Masters programmes (see Appendix for list of eligible programmes) who have demonstrated the potential to achieve highly.


Selection criteria:
  • 1. Preference will be given to applicants enrolling for the first time in the eligible programme. 2. Applicants must have completed their qualifying programme at AUT or any other New Zealand tertiary institution. 3. Applicants must be intending to study full-time. 4. Applicants must be registered in ARION as having Māori first ethnicity and achieve a minimum GPA of 4 (B-) across 120pts in the final year of their qualifying programme. 5. Recipients of this scholarship are not eligible to reapply in subsequent years. 6. Students who already commenced studies in the eligible programme may apply, and if successful the scholarship tenure will be reduced by the studies already completed in the approved programme.

How do students apply?
Applicants must complete the online AUT BEL Postgraduate Māori or Pacific Scholarship Application available through the AUT Scholarships Database www.aut.ac.nz/scholarships.  Applications will open in December of the year preceding study for Trimester 1 enrolment starts and August for Trimester 3 enrolment starts. Applicants will be asked to upload the following documentation: a)  Academic transcript(s) for any previous tertiary study that was completed at a New Zealand tertiary institution other than AUT. b) A copy of the applicant’s AUT transcript will be added to the application by the Scholarships Office once grades have been finalised.

Eligible applications will be shortlisted by BEL.  Recipients will be selected by BEL.

How and when do students learn of the decision?
Applications will be notified of the outcome by the University Scholarships Office as soon as possible after BEL have made their selection.

What conditions are attached to acceptance of this award?
The award of this scholarship is conditional on the student enrolling full-time in an approved programme.  Approved study may be in Trimester 1, 2 and 3.   The award will be paid as a contribution to fees only.
