In the last decades, several new mass spectrometry techniques have been developed to measure a broad spectrum of proteins, metabolites, and lipids in biological samples, resulting in the detection of  thousands of different analytes within a single sample. These approaches enable the discovery of new biomarkers and pathological imbalances with an unbiased approach. A challenge with these shotgun metabolomics, proteomics and lipid omics analyses is the variation between measurements.

The current project aims to further study and reduce the variation in shotgun approaches. By improving on sample preparation techniques, analytical conditions and data processing algorithms, a reduction in analytical variation is accomplished leading to a superior predictive value of the analyses. These new analytical conditions will lead to major improvements in clinical diagnostics.

Additionally, to working on your PhD thesis, you will become a full member of our bio-analytical team. After initial training, the candidate will be responsible for the development and application of bioanalytical assays for our clients. This project is a unique opportunity to obtain your PhD degree and gain inside into the biotech industry and start-up environment in life sciences together with seasoned start up veterans.
