PostDoc position for optical diffraction tomography for tumor histology

Updated: about 2 years ago
Deadline: 04 Feb 2022

| Optical diffraction tomography | Digital pathology | Tumor histology |

This project is in the field of optical diffraction tomography for high resolution imaging of optically cleared tissue biopsies. Based on an existing set-up, the post-doc will perform proof of principle experiments that show the potential of optical diffraction tomography for 3D digital imaging of large volume tissue resections. The research will involve work on the biochemistry of optical clearing, development of high speed optical imaging, and the accurate tomographic reconstruction of the 3D structure.

The research will be performed at the Department of Imaging Physics at the faculty of Applied Sciences of the Delft University of Technology, in the general context of tomographic and microscopic imaging, under the supervision of dr. Jeroen Kalkman. The project is part of the Cancer Diagnostics 3.0 program , and is carried out in collaboration with the Leiden University Medical Center and the Erasmus Medical Center. The three academic institutions cooperate in the framework of the Medical Delta , a partnership between the three academic institutions for bringing healthcare technology to fruitful application.

Department
Research in the department of Imaging Physics is aimed at developing novel instrumentation and methodology in imaging science and sensing technology. Our research products extend existing boundaries in terms of spatial resolution, temporal resolution and information/data throughput. We are pioneers in developing advanced concepts of computational imaging, a marriage between cleverly designed imaging systems and sophisticated post-processing. In everything we do, there is a core of cutting edge physics and engineering of high-tech instruments, of the use of the most advanced computing techniques, and of a very close link to real-life applications. Our work has clear societal impact in the areas of life sciences, healthcare, and industry.

We are looking for an enthusiastic candidate with a strong ‘engineering spirit’. She/he has a demonstrable interest in optical imaging, computed tomography, and/or optical instrument design. Excellent analytical skills and a mindset towards cooperation with clinicians and towards application of the technology are highly recommended. The candidate should hold a PhD in a relevant field.

Salary and benefits are in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities. The TU Delft offers a customisable compensation package, a discount on health insurance and sport memberships, and a monthly work costs contribution. Flexible work schedules can be arranged.

For international applicants we offer the Coming to Delft Service and Partner Career Advice to assist you with your relocation. An International Children's Centre offers childcare and there is an international primary school.
