Job description

The LINC study (LInking endocrine disrupting chemicals in maternal Nutrition to Child health) aims to study the link between prenatal and childhood exposure to legacy and emerging chemicals and neurodevelopment in children. This PhD project will specifically focus on a follow-up health assessment at age 7-11 years in this Dutch birth cohort. In addition, a behavioural intervention study using innovative personal sampling strategies will test possible exposure-reducing behaviours. We are looking for someone with a background in health sciences or a similar field. He/she will organize the follow-up health assessment at age 7-11 years in the LINC cohort, design and implement an intervention to identify exposure-reducing behaviours. Your duties

  • organize a follow-up health assessment at age 7-11 years in the LINC cohort (including home visits)
  • design intervention and perform an effect evaluation and process evaluation (using quantitative and qualitative methods)
  • data processing and analysis
  • assist in writing protocols and reports

Requirements
  • master’s degree in health sciences or a similar field
  • knowledge of and experience with data processing and analysis
  • high energy multi-tasker with excellent organizational skills
  • ability to work independently, pro-actively and in collaboration with others
  • strong oral and written communication skills in Dutch and English

What are we offering?

A challenging position in a socially involved organization. The salary will be in accordance with university regulations for academic personnel and amounts €2,541 (PhD) per month during the first year and increases to €3,247 (PhD) per month during the fourth year, based on a full-time employment. The job profile: is based on the university job ranking system and is vacant for at least 1 FTE.

The appointment will initially be for 1 year. After a satisfactory evaluation of the initial appointment, the contract will be extended to a total duration of 4 years (48 months).
The appointment starts 1st November 2022 or as soon as possible thereafter.

About the department, institute, project
The Amsterdam Institute for Life and Environment (A-LIFE), section Environment & Health aims to understand and inform society on the environmental and human health risks of chemicals. The department is a unique combination of epidemiologists, toxicologists and chemists and investigates emerging chemicals and their toxicity for the environment, including humans. This PhD position is embedded in the LINC study , the mother-child cohort established by the section Environment & Health. The successful candidate will work in close collaboration with other researchers within international, multidisciplinary projects aimed at studying effects of chemicals on human health.
