Phd Fellow in International Criminal Law

The Criminal Law section of the Public Law Department is looking for a Junior Lecturer Researcher to carry out PhD research.

What are you going to do

The core tasks of the position are (60% research and 40% education)

• conducting doctoral research in the field of criminal law;
• coordinating education and providing tutorials in criminal law, including organisational supervision of the tutorial group, compiling teaching materials (study guides, assignments, instructions) and acting as a contact person for and with students;
• depending on own background and interest, providing education in one or more Master's subjects;
• supervising essays in the bachelor's programme and theses in the master's programme.

What do we require

For this position of PhD Fellow we require that you have:

• Completed master in international criminal law, criminal law, public international law or human rights law;

• Passion for research, previous publications is an asset;

• Enthusiasm for teaching; experience is an asset;

• Excellent writing skills and oral communication skills in English.

And, we think it is very important that the future colleague is able to work well together in a team.

Our offer

We offer you a position as a PhD Fellow within the Criminal Law Department at the UvA. A varied and challenging opportunity in an ambitious organisation. The candidate will be offered a temporary contract for the duration of six years. The employee is expected to obtain the BKO and successfully complete a PhD project. Before the end of the first one-and-an-half year, the so-called Education and Guidance Plan (OBP) will be assessed. Should the assessment be negative, the employment contract will be terminated prematurely, whereby an outplacement will be offered.

The salary amounts to a minimum of €2,846 and a maximum of €4,490 gross per month (salary scale 10, CAO Nederlandse Universiteiten) based on full-time employment (38 hours). The UvA also offers extensive secondary employment benefits, including 8% vacation pay and 8.3% year-end bonus. The CAO Nederlandse Universiteiten applies.

The Criminal Law Section is part of the Public Law Department and provides education and research in the field of national and international criminal (procedural) law. The research profile of the members of the section is national, international, comparative and interdisciplinary in nature. Members of the section teach in the bachelor's programme Dutch Law and the master's programme Public Law, track Criminal Law and in the master's programme International Criminal Law. The research of the members of the section is part of the Amsterdam Center for International Law (ACIL) and the recently founded Amsterdam Center for Criminal Justice (ACCJ).
