Job description

Science and technology hold an enormous potential to contribute to the solutions of big societal problems of today, such as the recent pandemic and subsequent innovations in vaccine development have so poignantly shown. Science- and tech-based entrepreneurship education is a means to commercially and societally valorize innovative scientific knowledge.

This challenging and highly innovative PhD-project centers around the following questions: How can Science-based Entrepreneurship Education (SBEE) contribute to establishing a dynamic of knowledge circulation in innovation ecosystems, such that both students, researchers, and practitioners benefit in terms of learning and creating value?

The following subprojects, focusing on related research questions, will be performed: 1. Which didactical design principles can be deduced from current initiatives in science- and tech-based entrepreneurship education in European scientific research infrastructures? 2. How to optimize the output of these programs in terms of knowledge and technology transfer from university to the innovation ecosystem? 3. How can “thesis supervision as a team effort” contribute to professional skills development in science-based entrepreneurship education and how can it strengthen regional and inter-university collaboration in innovation ecosystems? 4. How to develop an honours course on Science- and tech-based entrepreneurship education (Faculty of Science, VU)? 5. How can knowledge exchange for science-based entrepreneurship education be organized between cooperating universities (VU and Universiteit Twente).

The project and subprojects will be performed as a joint effort between Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and Universiteit Twente. The project will be supervised by a team of professors of both Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and Universiteit Twente, headed by the division SBI/prof. dr. ir. Bart Bossink. Project-leader is dr.
