Job description

Are you an excellent student, are you passionate about doing research, and are you interested in optimization under uncertainty? Then, apply for this vacancy.
You will work within the Department of Operations at the Faculty of Economics and Business under primary supervisor dr. W. Romeijnders on the topic “Discrete Decision Making under Uncertainty”. Two PhD positions (each 1.0 FTE) are available on this topic as part of a 5-year NWO Vidi grant.

Within this project you will study multistage stochastic optimization problems involving integer decision variables. The goal is to develop new theory and solution methods for these highly challenging problems. In particular, the focus will be on developing and implementing efficient convex approximations for these problems and deriving guarantees on their performance. The newly developed solution methods will be applied to real-life cases such as designing a sustainable hydrogen supply chain for the Northern Netherlands and asset liability management for pension funds.
