PhD Position in Homotopy Theory (1.0 FTE)

In this position you will join the Mathematical Institute at Utrecht University in a 4-year PhD position. You will join the Vidi project Hopf algebras and homotopy theory under the supervision of Gijs Heuts and during your research you will focus on the interplay of higher algebra and unstable homotopy theory.
The precise goals of the research project are flexible. You will have the opportunity to adapt the goals to your own strengths and interests. Additionally, work as a teaching assistant within the department is part of this PhD position.

• You have an MSc degree (or equivalent) in mathematics, or you will obtain such a degree before the starting date of the PhD project.
• You have a strong background in homotopy theory or related areas.
• You have a working proficiency in English.
• You possess a collaborative and enterprising attitude towards research in mathematics.

• a position (1.0 FTE) for one year, with an extension to a total of four years upon successful assessment;
• a full-time gross salary ranging from €2,770 in the first year and increasing to €3,539 in the fourth year in scale P of the Collective Labour Agreement Dutch Universities (CAO);
• 8% holiday bonus and 8.3% end-of-year bonus;
• a pension scheme, partially paid parental leave, and flexible employment conditions based on the CAO.

The Mathematical Institute has a very active topology community including Lennart Meier , Ieke Moerdijk , and Gijs Heuts . We carry out research in unstable and stable homotopy theory, higher category theory, higher algebra, and derived algebraic geometry. As a member of our research team you will benefit from interactions with the other mathematicians at Utrecht, as well as with the many visitors we host. You will have ample opportunity to participate in seminars and workshops here in Utrecht. Funding is available to support travel to conferences and workshops abroad.
