Job description
We are seeking a PhD candidate in the Vici-project Theory Construction Methodology, funded by NWO. The objective of this project is to develop methodology that can be used in theory construction through the development of formal models, specifically in the context of psychology. Such formal models should be tested against robust empirical phenomena, but in psychology it is unclear a) which phenomena are robust and b) how these should be represented in statistical and generative models (i.e., simulation models). The goal of the current PhD project is to develop methods for identifying, characterizing, and encoding phenomena such that they can serve as benchmarks for theoretical models. The PhD track is within the Psychological Methods Group of the University of Amsterdam and will be situated within the Theory Methods Lab .
What are you going to do
You will:
  • investigate existing methodologies to characterize empirical phenomena in psychology;
  • develop strategies for using empirical phenomena as benchmarks for theoretical models; and
  • write up the results of your research in scientific publications to be included in a PhD Thesis.
