Job description

As a PhD student in the Department of Clinical Pharmacy and Toxicology, you will part of the research programme ‘Personalised Therapeutics’. This programme aims to optimize drug treatment by personalising the dose and drug selection based on a better understanding of the genetic variation that is causal for the inter-patient variability in drug response. The PhD project is part of the SafePolyMed project in which researchers from twelve institutes across Europe collaborate to develop innovative tools to define, assess and manage drug-drug-gene interactions with the objective to promote enhanced patient empowerment and reduce adverse drug reactions.

·         You hold a master’s in pharmacy, biopharmaceutical sciences and/or medicine

·         Your aim is to contribute to a better understanding of effects of genetic variability and drug-drug interactions in drug responses

·         You will work on a patient centred approach to empower polypharmacy patients in their medication use

Requirements

We are looking for a talented, highly motivated candidate with an MSc degree in Pharmacy, Biopharmaceutical Sciences and/or Medicine. You are accurate, productive and have a pro-active and results-driven work attitude. You are independent, perseverant, ambitious and an excellent communicator, both written and verbally.


Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 4 years.

You will be employed on the basis of a 36-hour week. Appointment should lead to a PhD thesis and is for a maximum duration of four years. Your salary  is € 2,631 gross per month in the first year, progressing to € 3,336,- gross per month in the fourth year based on a full time position (scale Pro of the Collective Labor Agreement for University Hospitals).

The Department of Clinical Pharmacy and Toxicology

The Department of Clinical Pharmacy and Toxicology is a large and ambitious hospital pharmacy active in patient care, education, specialist training and scientific research. The department’s research program ‘Personalized Therapeutics’ aims to identify and implement genetic biomarkers that predict individual drug responses as well as develop innovative drugs. The department is at the forefront of implementing pharmacogenetics in clinical practice. All of the department’s PhD students are also enrolled in the LUMC Graduate School. We have strong collaborations within the LUMC (research theme Medical Genomics), the Netherlands and internationally.
