Offer Description
How to incorporate sustainable work practices in health care? What are direct and indirect effects on health care workers? Which individual and organizational factors facilitate or hamper sustainable development? If you get excited about these questions, we are looking for you: an ambitious PhD candidate to join our multidisciplinary project team!
The European Green Deal has set a range of objectives for climate change, work and health. Climate change is shaping the future of work, yet little is known about the impact of climate change on occupational health and safety. The INTERCAMBIO project aims to promote mental and physical health of workers in changing work environments due to climate change, implementation of new sustainable working practices, and among workers in green jobs.
The health care sector is responsible for 5-10% of the carbon footprint and numerous interventions are being developed to facilitate transition towards more sustainable health care. As a PhD candidate you will be involved in studying potential health impacts of changing work environments due to implementation of sustainable work practices among health care workers in the Netherlands. The impact will be evaluated by methods of `natural experiments' with observational data, taking advantage of the large variation in uptake and magnitude of interventions in real life. You will work on developing a conceptual model for impact of sustainable work practices on health and wellbeing and executing an empirical study for impact evaluation. This project will allow you to gain experience with a broad range of quantitative and qualitative research methods, applied to a highly relevant societal challenge In Europe, potentially resulting in significant health impact.
The project is embedded within the European Intercambio consortium, a large European Union funded Horizon project, and as such enables you to collaborate with researchers from 12 research institutes across Spain, Denmark, Sweden, Portugal, Belgium and Switzerland from a comprehensive selection of relevant backgrounds including occupational and environmental health, epidemiology, psychology and toxicology.
