Doctoral Candidate in Computer Science on Smart Energy Systems

Updated: over 2 years ago
Job Type: FullTime
Deadline: 30 Jun 2022

SnT is a leading international research and innovation centre in secure, reliable and trustworthy ICT systems and services. We play an instrumental role in Luxembourg by fueling innovation through research partnerships with industry, boosting R&D investments leading to economic growth, and attracting highly qualified talent.

The Centre is rapidly expanding its research activities and is seeking highly motivated doctoral candidates who wish to pursue research in close cooperation with our partners. For further information you may check: www.securityandtrust.lu  and https://wwwen.uni.lu/snt/research/finatrax

We’re looking for people driven by excellence, excited about innovation, and looking to make a difference. If this sounds like you, you’ve come to the right place!

Your Role

Successful candidates will join the young, vibrant, and interdisciplinary FINATRAX Research Group, which builds bridges between business research and information systems engineering. The group conducts research on the application and the impact of digital technologies like DLT/Blockchain, Digital Identities, Machine Learning/AI, and IoT/5G on organisations from both the private and public sectors. The group consists of doctoral and post-doctoral researchers from diverse backgrounds (e.g., policy, business, technology), united in pursuit of sustainable technologies that positively impact society.

Successful candidates will have the opportunity to make an important contribution to several exciting research projects, most notably, the SynErgie Research  project.

In SynErgie II, we analyze how the growing production fluctuation associated with an increasing share of renewables can be tackled by demand-side flexibility of industrial energy consumers. Thereby, we collaborate with a broad variety of partners from industry and research to design the future energy system. In particular, we focus on IT-based solutions for the energy system by building a corresponding platform for future flexibility trade. The goal is to develop a platform that allows electricity-intensive companies to get access to markets for electricity and flexibility in order to use their assets to stabilize the energy system. The bandwidth of tasks therefore reaches from the modelling of industrial processes over the design of interfaces to the analysis of market's requirements for data exchange.

Next to the partnership project SynErgie II, successful candidates will carry out research in the general area of DLT/Blockchain, Digital Identities, Machine Learning/AI .In particular, they will be integrated into a larger research team on “Energy Informatics” and collaborate with team members employed on similar projects. Successful candidates will thus have the opportunity to investigate additional research questions and design an individual research portfolio. As such, successful candidates will be able to align the skills that they learn pursuing a doctorate with their personal goals and interests.
