Position Summary

KIMEP University College of Humanities and Education invites applications for 3 lecturer positions. The positions are a twelve-month (including vacation period) full-time academic appointment to begin on 16 August 2021 with possibility of extension. Responsibilities include teaching, research, scholarly activities, advising, and service.

We seek talented instructors who are enthusiastic about teaching and serving the University, local community and the profession. We are looking for faculty who could teach a variety of courses for undergraduate and graduate students:  Foundation and Academic English courses (e.g., Academic Speaking, Academic Composition and Advanced Academic Writing), TESOL pre-service courses, and/or Translation/ interpreting courses.

Minimum Qualifications

Expertise is desired in the following areas:

  • English/Applied Linguistics/TESOL/Translation Studies.
  • Applicants for positions should have:

    • a master’s degree in a relevant field from an internationally-recognized, accredited university;
    • ideally at least 2 years of teaching experience in reputable universities.

    Preferred but not required qualifications:

    • CELTA/DELTA.
    • Advanced English proficiency (IELTS equivalent 8.0 or equivalent).
    • Proficiency in Korean, Chinese or German.
    • Ability and willingness to contribute to the General Education program in the social sciences area.
    • Experience with remote or online course design and teaching is strongly desired.
    • Familiarity with CIS countries or similar international experience is welcome.

    ABD’s will be considered who meet the position qualifications and include in their application materials a letter from the dissertation chair confirming defense date prior to the position’s start date.

    Compensation

    Rank and salary are competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications. Compensation after ­tax compares favorably with net salaries in western countries.

    Limited on campus housing is available to rent, or alternatively, help is available in finding off campus housing. In addition to salary, a benefit package includes basic healthcare insurance, reduced tuition rates for KIMEP courses, and subsidy for relocation allowance. New faculty members are provided with a reduced teaching schedule during the first semester. Summer paid teaching is typically available.

    The salary will be subject to deduction of taxes (10% Personal Income tax in general) as required by the Law of Kazakhstan.

    ·         Final candidates, non-fluent speakers of English language are required to submit IELTS academic certificate of the score 8.0 (9.0) or equivalent.

    • November 8, 2021 (Monday, 11.59 pm Almaty time). These applications would be considered/interviewed first until December 8, 2021 by the Selection Committee members. Applications received until November 8 are guaranteed full consideration.
    • December 8, 2021 (Wednesday, 11:59 pm based on Almaty time). The applications would be considered/interviewed until January 8, 2022 by the Selection Committee members.
