The Organization


The Japan Climate Alliance (JCA), established in 2022 is a non-profit organization with a vision of a just and prosperous society powered by renewable energy.  Although Japan is the fifth largest emitter of greenhouse gases it is yet to demonstrate leadership in tackling climate change, in part due to a severe shortage of well-motivated professionals with the ambition and expertise to work on solving the climate crisis. 


Via its Climate Fellows Program (CFP) the JCA recruits and trains for the Japanese and Asian non-profit sector, Senior Fellows of Sustainable Finance from a wide range of professions, utilizing candidates’ expertise in a variety of fields to take on the challenge of solving the climate crisis.

The Role

Under this fully compensated Climate Fellows Program, your role will contribute towards the mission to help solve the climate crisis in Japan and Asia. As a Senior Fellow of Sustainable Finance, you will lead financial transformation aiming to achieve net zero.  You will also:

Collaborate with financial services organisations and the corporate sector

Share your finance sector expertise to strategize climate change initiatives

Promote projects related to sustainable finance

Cooperate with the fellows and with external partners to maximize engagement capacity

Perform other duties as required to advance the Alliance’s agenda

  

Skills Required

You have at least three to five years of experience in financial/ESG investment and/or sustainable finance related organisations or finance positions, and ideally some knowledge of decarbonization trends in public and private sectors, financial institutions, institutional investors, government agencies, think tanks, etc.

  

Additionally, you have:

  A strong interest in the field of clean energy transition

Capacity to collaborate with domestic and international climate organizations

Native-level Japanese language skills and business-level English proficiency

Deep understanding of business etiquette in Japan and overseas

Strong motivation to advance your fellowship and work in a think tank or NGO

A valid work permit for Japan and native-level Japanese language skills
