Location: Center for Convergent Technologies, Genova
WHO WE ARE
At IIT we work enthusiastically to develop human-centered Science and Technology to tackle some of the most pressing societal challenges of our times and transfer these technologies to the production system and society. Our Genoa headquarter is strictly inter-connected with our 11 centres around Italy and two outer-stations based in the US for a truly interdisciplinary experience.
YOUR TEAM
You’d be working in a multicultural and multi-disciplinary group, where experienced physicists, chemists material scientists, and optical spectroscopists collaborate, each with their own expertise, to carry out common research.
The Clean Room Facility is coordinated by Dr. Andrea Toma, who has extensive experience in the nanofabrication and nanophotonic domains. The research will aim at exploring novel hybrid systems with unique chemical and physical properties. Within this context, the activities will extensively focus on device manufacturing and testing.
Within the team, your main responsibilities will be:
Fabrication and characterization of nanophotonic architectures, with the specific aim of realizing strongly coupled hybridization between light and semiconductor nano-crystals.
Nano-crystals manipulation, positioning and characterization. Comprehensive investigation of their structural/morphological properties.
This open position/research is financed by the European Research Council within the project REPLY - REshaping Photocatalysis via Light-Matter hYbridization in Plasmonic Nanocavities GA 101002422
WHAT WOULD MAKE YOU SHINE
A PhD in physics, material science or related disciplines.
Proficiency in device fabrication/clean room activities (electron beam lithography, thin film deposition, ion beam milling, nano-crystal manipulation).
Documented experience in the realization of large area photonic architectures (plasmonic structures, metasurfaces, photonic crystals etc.) and their optical characterization.
A strong publication record.
The ability to properly report, organize and publish research data.
Documented experience in coaching junior scientists.
Good command in spoken and written English.
EXTRA AWESOME
Experience in optical techniques for material characterization (e.g. UV-Vis-NIR micro-spectroscopy, ellipsometry, infrared and Raman spectroscopy, etc.)
Knowledge of software packages for designing, analyzing and optimizing nanophotonic systems (e.g. Comsol Multiphysics, CST Studio Suite, Lumerical)
Good communication skills
Strong problem solving attitude
High motivation to learn
Spirit of innovation and creativity
Good in time and priority management
Ability to work in a challenging and international environment
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a highly interdisciplinary environment
