YOUR TEAM

You will be working in a multicultural and multi-disciplinary group, where cognitive neuroscientists, biomedical and computational experts collaborate, each with their own expertise, to carry out common research.

The Human Behavior and Brain Stimulation Laboratory is coordinated by Dr. Lorella Battelli, PhD, who has extensive experience in cognitive and neuromodulatory procedures to study the human brain in the healthy and neurological population.

This open position is financed within the project: “New Methods to potentiate and support cognitive and motor functions in neurological disease and in the healthy population using new noninvasive brain stimulation protocols and brain imaging”.

The research focuses on the links between vision, attention and perceptual decision making in humans. Visual psychophysics, behavioral training, TMS and direct current stimulation coupled with fMRI and EEG will be used as techniques to study the direct relationship between brain functions and behavior in the healthy population and in neurological patients. The successful candidate will conduct research both in Italy and at the IIT center at Harvard, in Boston, USA.

Major responsibilities will be:

  • implementing new experimental protocols;  

  • recruiting and training subjects;

  • helping mentor young trainees, interns and PhD students.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • A PhD in Psychology, Neuropsychology, Vision Science, Cognitive Neuroscience or related fields

  • Documented experience in visual psychophysics testing and training, implementing experimental protocols, statistical analysis

  • A strong publication record

  • The ability to properly report, organize and publish research data

  • Documented experience in coaching junior scientists

  • Good problem-solving skills and strong interpersonal skills .

  • Good command in spoken and written English

ADDITIONAL SKILLS

  • Experience in brain stimulation protocols and the use of different stimulation devices such TMS and tDCS. Some expertise in brain imaging techniques such as fMRI and EEG would be a plus.

  • Experience in vision rehabilitation, visual psychophysics, or statistics would be a plus.

  • Matlab, R and Python programming skills as well as Brainvoyager and/or SPM analysis

  • Good communication skills

  • Strong problem solving

  • High motivation to learn

  • Spirit of innovation and creativity

  • Good in time and priority management

  • Ability to work in a challenging and international environment

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a highly interdisciplinary environment
