The Functional Nanosystems Research Line (https://www.iit.it/research/lines/functional-nanosystems ) of IIT in Genoa is seeking a highly motivated and talented candidate in the fields of optics, engineering, physics or chemistry with experience in the spectroscopic and microscopic investigation of hybrid functional nanosystems based on two dimensional (2D) materials, such as transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs). The overall research goal targets the development of functional nanosystems in which light energy is directly stored by separating the charges into the two compartments of the hybrid system, and released on demand taking a step towards the direct light energy storage. Towards this aim the hired postdoc will carry out spectroscopic measurements of the hybrid nanosystems thereby extracting carrier dynamics and hybrid interactions with the overall aim to enhance the coupling between the two subunits, improve light to energy conversion, and extend the charge storage capacity.

The ideal candidate has a strong background in the steady-state and ultrafast spectroscopy. The candidate should have ideally worked with spectrophotometers, spectrofluorimeters and similar photoluminescence setups, pulsed laser-based pump-probe spectroscopy setups and time-resolved photoluminescence. The candidate should be able to build custom optical setups, also in a microscopy configuration, by assembling different optical components, including nonlinear systems, such as optical parametric amplifiers. The expertise with different programming software, such as Matlab, Labview or Python is expected. Research experience with different zero dimensional and two dimensional nanosystems is highly appreciated.

This research position is part of the ERC Starting Grant Light-DYNAMO (Light-driven nanocrystals TMDC capacitors, Grant Agreement n°850875).

The highly interdisciplinary research environment at IIT provides access to state-of-the-art wet labs, electron microscopy facility, materials characterization facility, clean room facility and high standard optoelectronics labs. Fluency in English is essential. The successful candidate should have good practice with teamwork, group learning processes and a problem-solving attitude.
