The Free University of Bozen-Bolzano has opened a public competition for 21 fully funded PhD scholarships in Computer Science (deadline July 1). They cover a range of epistemologies, theories, methods and applications of computer science. Topics include studies of theoretical AI, data science and machine learning application, up to the design of the most advanced user interfaces and critical user research.
The language of instruction is English, but the University implements a trilingual model providing prospective students with the ideal environment to learn German and Italian.
The scholarship includes
University Fees
3-year personal grant (aprox. € 17,000 NET per year)
50% pay increase to support international mobility for a period variable between 6 months and one year according to the type of projects
Personal budget for research and travel expenses (Euro 2,500)
State of the art technical equipment
Further financial possibilities are available in the form of teaching contracts and research consultancies during the years of study, for top students.
Our school is committed to fostering a caring and diverse environment, with students coming from over twenty countries (70% international students) and with a reasonable gender distribution, which we are committed to improve (24% women).
The Faculty of Computer Science constantly reaches top positions in national and international rankings. According to the Almalaura data, our graduates are highly satisfied both with the quality of the supervision, which is ranked 10/10, career development, and the student experience. All of our alumni are employed in academia, industry, or have started their business based on the outcome of the dissertation.
The University is located in wonderful South Tyrol at the crossroads between the German-speaking and the Italian cultures and economies.
The call for applications and the project list can be found at
