YOUR TEAM

You’d be working in a multicultural and multi-disciplinary group, where mechanical, electrical, software engineers and robotics experts collaborate to carry out common research.

The Humanoid Sensing and Perception Research line  is coordinated by Lorenzo Natale who has extensive experience in humanoid robotics and in particular artificial vision, tactile sensing and software architectures for robotics. You will contribute to the project 5GTOURS funded by the EU through the H2020 framework program. The goal of this project is the implementation of a robotic museum guide and it involves the development of algorithms for autonomous navigation in known environments and human-robot interaction using vision and technologies for natural language processing. It involves field tests involving end-users in a real environment.

Within the team, your main responsibilities will be:

  • Develop the software that controls the behavior of the robot by orchestrating in real-time the components for perception, navigation and natural language processing;

  • Develop the dialog manager and its interaction with the other components of the robot software architecture;

  • Participate in the field test and experimental validation.

This position is supported by the Horizon 2020 EU project 5G-TOURS Grant Agreement 856950.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • A degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related disciplines

  • Strong motivation to work with real robotic systems

  • Good knowledge of programming languages such as, C/C++, Java, Python

  • Good communication skills and ability to cooperate within a team

  • Good command in spoken and written English.

ADDITIONAL SKILLS

  • Previous experience working on real robotic systems

  • Knowledge of C++ and development tools (e.g. CMake and GIT)

  • Knowledge of middleware for robotics (e.g. YARP, ROS)

  • Knowledge of open source robotics software, simulators (e.g. Gazebo) and middleware (e.g. ROS/YARP)

  • Knowledge of cloud services APIs/SDKs (e.g. Google, Amazon, etc)

  • Strong problem solving attitude

  • High motivation to learn

  • Spirit of innovation and creativity

  • Good in time and priority management

  • Ability to work in a challenging and international environment

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a highly interdisciplinary environment
