PhD/Postdoctoral position in subsurface CO2 sequestration

Updated: over 1 year ago
Location: Israel,
Deadline: The position may have been removed or expired!

We have an open position for a PhD candidate or Postdoctoral scholar in the laboratory of computational hydrology, Agricultural Research Organization (ARO), The Volcani Institute, Israel. The elected candidate will work under the direction of Dr. Ziv Moreno (ARO) and Dr. Avinoam Rabinovich from the School of Mechanical Engineering, Tel Aviv University (TAU), Israel.

Project:  One of the central topics of reservoir characterization is an estimation of multi-phase flow properties from corefooding experiments and upscaling these properties to field-scale models. Recent investigations show that sub-core heterogeneity has a significant impact on large-scale flow. Current methods for characterizing sub-core properties require numerous time-consuming and complex two-phase flow simulations. Furthermore, a satisfactory upscaling method has yet to be found. This project aims to develop new methods of characterizing sub-core properties and upscaling using semi-analytical solutions and machine learning techniques. The research will allow the successful candidate to develop a set of skills in multi-phase flow at porous media, applying and developing machine learning techniques, developing analytical solutions and commanding multi-phase flow numerical simulators.

Funding: The project is funded and a full scholarship and tuition for studies at Tel Aviv University will be provided.

Requirements: Applications must have completed a Master degree in physics, geosciences, environmental, mechanical, or chemical engineering, or a comparable subject.

Application procedure: Interested candidates are welcome to send a letter of motivation, and an up-to-date CV, including the contact details of two referees, to [email protected] , [email protected] .
