2 Postdoc/PhD positions in Control Theory and/or Power Electronics and Power Systems at Tel Aviv... (# of pos: 2)

Updated: over 2 years ago
Job Type: FullTime
Deadline: 31 Jan 2022

2 fully funded Postdoc/PhD positions in the broad areas of control theory and/or power electronics and power systems have become available at the School of Electrical Engineering, Tel Aviv University, Israel, in the group of Prof. George Weiss.

The successful candidate will work, depending on the candidate background and interests, in one of the areas described below:

First area: Modelling and stability of power grids, estimating the parameters of the model by probing signals, the role of inertia, algorithms for inverters that can enhance the robustness of the grid.

Second area: Internal model based control, which includes regulator theory as well repetitive control. This area involves a lot of mathematics and some knowledge of distributed parameter systems would be welcome in this project.

Third area: Advanced control of switched power converters. Within this broad area, one topic of ongoing research is the grid integration of renewable and other distributed energy sources, grid-forming inverters.

Fourth area: Modelling and analysis of time-varying infinite-dimensional systems. We are particularly interested in the modelling of switched systems, where a new system is obtained as the limit when the switching frequency converges to infinity, and the switching takes place between two or more) time-invariant systems. This work requires a strong mathematical background.

Interested applicants should contact Prof. George Weiss directly at [email protected]

Applications should include:

  • Cover letter (up to 1 page)
  • Curriculum Vitae, including educational background and list of publications
  • Grades transcripts
  • Up to 3 letters of recommendation and contact information of two academic references.

All documents should be in English.
