The Munster Technological University is a member of Lero, the Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) funded Irish Software Research Centre and CONFIRM, the SFI-funded centre for Smart Manufacturing. The Intelligent Mechatronics and RFID Research Centre (IMaR) in the Munster Technological University Kerry Campus, is a world-class research centre in the area of Intelligent Mechatronics, Automation technologies, industrial IoT and RFID. IMaR is increasingly focussed on the complementary fields of data analytics, autonomous vehicles research and machine learning.

The overall mission of IMaR is to be industries partner of choice for the provision of innovative applied research. IMaR serves a cross section of industries including Automotive, Heavy Engineering, Telecommunications, Pharmaceutical, Production / Manufacturing, Aeronautical, Environmental, Healthcare and Agri-business.

IMaR has approximately 40 full-time researchers working across several disciplines; including automation, autonomous systems, software development, RFID, data analytics, systems dynamics & simulation and machine learning.

Graduate Research Positions

We are looking for highly motivated and creative engineering and computer science graduates to join a recently awarded SFI-Lero co-funded project in collaboration with a leading heavy engineering company employing 40,000 globally with 800 people in the Munster region working in R&D, design and manufacturing. The research project focuses on the development of simulation and digital twin technologies, data analytics for digital services industrial data analytics and control and researching new sensors for autonomous and remotely operated systems. The successful candidate will work towards a PhD/Masters in a combination of these topics as best suits the candidates interests and abilities.
