Clinical Assistant Professorships
In 2011, the Foundation announced the establishment, in partnership with the two medical faculties in Hong Kong, of a new scheme to support the recruitment of outstanding medical graduates who are committed to pursue a career in academic medicine, and to help develop their potential in full. The Scheme will provide the right candidate(s) with a solid platform for a long-term career with the medical faculties of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) and the University of Hong Kong (HKU) by supporting an initial four-year appointment as Clinical Assistant Professor. A one-off grant of HK$250,000 will be offered by the Foundation to the appointee at the time of appointment to support his/her research vitality.
Applicants should possess a medical degree registrable with the Medical Council of Hong Kong and an interest in pursuing a career in academic medicine. Preference would be given to those candidates who have established a credible research record and/or have obtained, on top of a medical degree, a Doctor of Medicine (MD), Master of Surgery (MS) or Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree.
The appointee is expected to undertake basic and applied clinical research and teaching duties. He/she should demonstrate a strong commitment to, and evidence of, excellence in research and teaching to help reinforce and advance the strengths of the Faculty in the broad spectrum of medical and health sciences education. The appointee is expected to develop his/her research portfolio under close supervision of a mentor, and to conduct high-quality scholarly research. Direct communication with patients in Cantonese is required.
The appointment(s) will be made in the two medical faculties of CUHK and HKU and the candidate(s) appointed will be mapped to the academic departments of the faculties as appropriate.
The appointment (s) will attract a contract-end gratuity and University’s contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, as well as annual leave and medical/dental benefits. Housing benefits, or a monthly cash allowance subject to the Rules on Prevention of Double Benefits on Housing, will be provided as appropriate. The cost to be shared by the University and the Foundation.
Interested applicants are requested to contact the two medical faculties direct.
Croucher Startup 2.0
The Foundation recently introduced a new funding initiative for all Croucher award recipients at any career stage who wish to use their scientific and technological expertise to set up companies with linkages with Hong Kong. All Croucher award recipients from any year may apply. Successful applicants will receive a grant of up to HK$1 million from the Croucher Foundation payable to their company. The initiative supports founders at the earliest stage. Award recipients already receiving seed funding or early stage venture capital from other sources are not encouraged to apply.
