We are looking for a PhD-Student – Immunology (m/f/d) who shares our enthusiasm for “Novel tissue-derived signals controlling immune inflammation”

Our profile and the research project Our team is committed to basic and applied translational research in neglected tropical diseases (NTD) and Global Health. One of the pillars is to improve our understanding of the immunopathogenesis of Th2-driven diseases such as helminth infections and allergies, specifically the mechanisms underlying tissue inflammation and immunomodulation. Such understanding will enable the development of effective therapeutic interventions and eventually policies to promote better disease management. In this context, we have recently provided insights into helminth-modulated lipid mediators as novel tissue-specific signals contributing to maintaining the delicate balance between immune activation and tolerance through the development of regulatory T cells (Treg). Within this DFG funded project, we aim to exclusively decipher how distinct tissue-derived lipid mediators contribute to the onset and control of allergic airway inflammation, a major human non-communicable disease constantly on the rise, by shaping Treg development, identity and functionality.

Your profile

- University degree (M.Sc.) in Immunology, Biology, Molecular Medicine or similar
- Solid background in immunology
- Previous practical experience in in vitro cell culture settings, experimental mouse models and flow cytometry will be considered advantageous
- Enthusiasm for translational science embedded in the Global Health arena
- Excellent team spirit, presentation and communication skills

We offer

- Position as PhD-Student in an international, ambitious and innovation-oriented team committed to Infection and Immunology research in Global Health
- Integration into an attractive Transregional (TRR) Collaborative Research Centre (CRC) with particular focus on Treg in multiple disease settings
- Inclusion in our training program (scientific communication, computational immunology, bioinformatic etc), mentoring program, individual coaching, science club and soft skills courses and funded targeted workshops and seminars to support your career
- Close collaboration and exchanges with TRR-CRC partners and support
- Well-equipped laboratory in our institute close to Munich city center
- The position is currently secured for 3 years (salary according to TV-L)
