The Research Training Group “Advanced Optimization in a Networked Economy,” funded by the German Science Foundation (DFG) and jointly hosted by the Department of Informatics, the Department of Mathematics, and the School of Management, is now offering several doctoral positions.
About us
We are an international and interdisciplinary group of mathematicians, computer scientists, economists, and operations researchers working together on challenging projects to develop and apply innovative mathematical methods for efficiently allocating and coordinating resources in modern logistics networks, transportation, and mobility systems. Our collective expertise spans algorithmic game theory, approximation algorithms, combinatorial optimization, inventory management, integer programming, machine learning, market and mechanism design, online algorithms, operations management, operations research, process mining, production logistics, robust optimization, scheduling, stochastic modeling, and supply chain management.
We offer
Students with a background in operations research, applied mathematics, computer science, or a related field and a strong interest in interdisciplinary work will be offered a comprehensive study, training, and research program. While working in an interdisciplinary environment, students still pursue the doctoral degree in their respective departments (i.e., computer science, mathematics, or management science). Further information is available at www.gs.tum.de/adone
The Ph.D. positions are part-time (75%) and initially limited to three years (extensions may be possible). Payment is based on the Collective Agreement for the Civil Service of the Länder (TV-L). TUM strives to raise the proportion of women in its workforce and explicitly encourages applications from qualified women. Applications from disabled persons with essentially the same qualifications will be given preference.
Your qualifications
We expect an excellent degree in Operations Research, Computer Science, Economics, Mathematics, or a related field. Very good written and verbal communication skills in English are required. German language skills are not needed for this position.
Application process
Applications in English should include:
Cover letter indicating your motivation and fit for our research program,
CV,
Copies of earned university degrees and transcripts of individual grades,
Writing sample (master thesis or seminar paper),
One letter of recommendation and the names and e-mail addresses of two additional references (university
professors),
Proof of English language skills (e.g., TOEFL or IELTS)
and be submitted in digital form (one pdf document) to [email protected] by June 30, 2022. For written applications, we request to submit only copies of official documents, as we cannot return materials after completion of the application process.
