The Leibniz Institute for Zoo and Wildlife Research (IZW) in Berlin is Germany’s premier wildlife research institute, one of eight research institutes in the Forschungsverbund Berlin e. V., a member of the Leibniz Association and jointly funded by the German federal and state governments. The IZW focuses on the life histories and mechanisms of evolutionary adaptations of mammals and birds, their limits and their conservation in natural and anthropogenically influenced environments. The institute operates within the fields of evolutionary ecology, ecological dynamics, evolutionary genetics, wildlife diseases, reproduction biology and reproduction management.

For the Department of Reproduction Biology we are looking for

scientist position (w/m/d)

Part time (65%)


The position is part of a third party funded project dealing with the regulation of sperm viability and availability in the female reproductive tract. The applicant will be responsible for conducting cell culture experiments assessing the sperm binding capacity of epithelial cells under different hormonal conditions. The applicant will maintain the highly differentiated in vitro models, perform co-cultures, prepare samples for downstream analysis (Histology/Immunohistochemistry, Extracellular Vesicles, –Omics) and evaluate, process and report data in context of the experiments.


  • Master's degree (completed or about to graduate) in biology, biotechnology, veterinary medicine, animal science or related disciplines
  • Basic knowledge in reproductive biology and assisted reproduction
  • Experience in cell culture techniques
  • Previous experience in isolation/characterization of extracellular vesicles, sperm processing, histology/microscopy, and image analysis is an advantage but not required
  • High motivation, creativity, flexibility and ability to work in a team
  • Excellent English language skills

We are looking for a committed and reliable personality with high motivation and willingness to contribute to the project beyond the usual requirements. The position will start as soon as possible and is initially limited to 12 months. Working hours comprise 25,35 hours per week (65%) with salary and benefits according to TVöD (Bund). Provided further project funding the position can be extended to a PhD position.
