At the Faculty of Mechanical Science and Engineering, the Institute of Power Engineering, Chair of Imaging Techniques in Energy and Process Engineering offers three positions as

Research Associate / PhD Student (m/f/x)

(subject to personal qualification employees are remunerated according to salary group E 13 TV-L)

within a junior research group funded by the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection

"Radiation based imaging techniques for nuclear safety research"

starting as soon as possible. The position is limited until December 31, 2025 with the option of extension and entails 75 % of the fulltime weekly hours. The period of employment is governed by the Fixed Term Research Contracts Act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz-WissZeitVG). The position offers the chance to obtain further academic qualification (usually PhD).

Tasks: How do water and steam flow in the fuel elements of a nuclear reactor? Are fuel elements stored in CASTOR containers still intact after 50 years? These are questions that interest our junior research group. To answer them, we are developing state-of-the-art radiation-based imaging techniques here in Dresden with ultrafast X-ray tomography and muon imaging, which are unique worldwide. In doing so, we cooperate with various research partners worldwide.

Requirements: For the staffing of our junior research group, we are looking for exceptional and dedicated talents who will be given the opportunity to gain scientific qualifications in an interdisciplinary engineering environment.

·         You have a very good university degree (diploma, master's degree) in mechanical engineering, physics or a related subject as well as very good basic knowledge of mathematics and physics

·         You have basic knowledge of energy and process engineering

·         You are interested in at least one of the following scientific fields:

o    experimental and numerical thermal fluid dynamics,

o    radiation-based imaging techniques (X-ray imaging, muon imaging)

·         You are curious, have an affinity for technology, are willing to perform and communicative You are able to think in an interdisciplinary way, quickly familiarise yourself with new topics and convince with a team-oriented and independent way of working

·         You have practical experimental skills and abilities

·         You can actively communicate with scientific partners, also in English
