Research associate / PhD student (f/m/d) in the field of 5G/6G cybersecurityPhD - Individual Supervisor
Description
Our profile
The Junior Professorship for Security and Privacy in Industrial Cooperation (SPICe) at RWTH Aachen University conducts research and teaches under the direction of Prof. Dr. Martin Henze on all technical topics of network and data security in industrial networks, especially with respect to security analysis and protection as well as cyber attack detection. Current research focuses on the application domains of energy supply and production and addresses cybersecurity of modern industrial communication protocols, protocol-independent attack detection in industrial networks, methods for detecting advanced multi-stage cyberattacks on industrial networks, secure and privacy-preserving industrial cooperation, and resource-efficient end-to-end security. The junior professorship is involved in numerous research collaborations, in particular the Cluster of Excellence "Internet of Production", and regularly publishes research results at leading international conferences in the field of security and communication systems (including NDSS, ESORICS, Asia CCS, ACSAC, RAID, WiSEC, IMC, ICNP, LCN).
We offer the opportunity to work in an exciting and promising research area and the opportunity to pursue a PhD in an excellent academic and research environment. We offer a dynamic and dedicated research team, a pleasant, open, gender- and family-friendly working environment, excellent opportunities for collaboration with other groups within RWTH Aachen University, the Aachen technology region and with internationally renowned research institutions.
Your profile
You have an above-average university degree (Master or comparable) in computer science or a closely related field and bring knowledge in cybersecurity, IT security, (industrial) communication networks and/or mobile communication. In addition to good programming skills in common programming languages, preferably Python, high commitment, ability to work in a team, social skills, willingness to present own scientific results at international conferences as well as the ability to independently, responsibly and successfully carry out research projects are expected. Due to the close cooperation with partner institutions in Germany and abroad, very good written and spoken German and English skills are mandatory.
Your tasks
Together with cooperation partners from industry and academia, you will research the cybersecurity of future industrial 5G/6G communication networks with regard to efficient end-to-end security in the area of critical infrastructures and/or the detection of attacks on 5G/6G networks in production as part of research projects funded by the Federal Office for Information Security. You will have the opportunity to actively develop and work on your own research topic in this highly visible research area to lay the foundation for your PhD project. The research activities in our group typically include not only the design of new security processes but also their implementation and evaluation. To this end, you will work closely with students in the context of final theses, international research internships, and the supervision of student research assistants. As part of this job, you will be expected to work independently on challenging research projects in the field of cybersecurity for industrial 5G/6G communications. This activity includes, among other things, the preparation of scientific publications, participation in (and organization of) project meetings, transfer of project results to courses, and presentation of project results at international conferences.
