The Department of Colloidal Chemistry (Director Prof. Dr. Antonietti) at the Max Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces in Potsdam, Germany invites applications from outstanding young scientists for the position of Postdoctoral Position (m/f/d).

We are looking for a highly motivated postdoc and team player with strong communication skills and the desire to work in a dynamic field of sustainable polymers for soil applications / artificial humic matter. The artificial humic matter was named within the top ten emerging technologies in chemistry of 2021 by IUPAC.


Your profile

The candidate should have proven experience in physical chemistry, polymer / biopolymer science, soft matter. Moreover, we expect a strong expertise in characterization methods/ analytical chemistry of materials. The applicant should strive towards scientific excellence, be ambitious and hard working.

The applicant should have a Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree in chemistry, polymer chemistry, organic chemistry, chemical engineering or material science, with an outstanding profile, a strong background and interests in

  • Synthetic chemistry, polymer chemistry, soft matter chemistry, synthetic organic chemistry, nanomaterials synthesis, biomaterials extraction
  • Characterization techniques for polymer materials, biopolymers, nanomaterials; physical-analytical methods, chromatography methods
  • Strong dedication to principles of green chemistry and engineering
  • Experience in publishing in international peer-reviewed scientific journals
  • Ability to effectively communicate in English, both written and oral.

Experience in extraction and characterization of natural humic substances, experiments on characterization of soils will be advantageous.

The position will be in “Sustainable Solvents for Green Processes” group.

The position is available starting from January 2022.
