The ERC-funded research group of Dr. Judith Feucht at the University Children’s Hospital Tübingen offers exciting research opportunities and a position for a:
Postdoctoral Fellow and PhD Student (f/m/d) in CAR T cell therapy/ Immunology
The Feucht lab aims at enhancing and extending immunotherapeutic approaches with Chimeric Antigen Receptor (CAR) T cells. CAR T cells targeting CD19 are an effective treatment strategy in patients with refractory B cell malignancies. Despite the clinical success with induction of complete remissions at high frequencies, treatment with currently approved CAR designs is curative only in a fraction of patients. We have contributed to the development of enhanced CAR designs that are now evaluated in clinical studies (Feucht*, Sun* et al., Nature Medicine, 2019). In addition, we have developed CAR T cells targeting senescence cells, which open novel treatment applications for cancer and beyond (Amor*, Feucht*, Leibold* et al., Nature, 2020). We use highly innovative gene editing strategies and clinically relevant mouse models to gain improved understanding into CAR biology and underlying mechanisms of therapeutic failures. We aim to develop novel gene engineering strategies, to identify synergistic treatment strategies and to successfully extend CAR therapy to a broader range of disease. Our overall goal is to translate our insights into improved cellular therapies for patients.
Responsibilities:
- Planning and conducting research experiments; establishment of novel assays and models
- Analysis, interpretation and presentation of research findings
- Contribution to grant writing, research reports and publications
- Scientific literature research and development of new ideas
- Supervision of master/ PhD students
Qualification profile:
- Motivation, passion and excitement for science are the most important attributes
- Postdoctoral fellow: A doctoral degree in biosciences (PhD, MD or equivalent); PhD student: Diploma or Master’s Degree (or equivalent) in biology, life sciences or related discipline
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Practical experience in cell culture techniques, immunological assays and/or molecular biology
- Excellent organization, communication and documentation skills
- Proficiency (oral and written) in English
- Collegiality with pears, students and collaborators
- Creativity and thinking outside the box are encouraged
- Practical skills in animal experimentation (FELASA B or comparable) and/ or computational skills are a plus
We offer an interesting and versatile workplace in the beautiful medieval city Tübingen, a pleasant working atmosphere and an exciting project in a highly innovative and relevant research field. The University of Tübingen is one of Germany's federally designated Elite Universities with a strong focus on translational immunology and cancer research. The Feucht lab is embedded within the Cluster of Excellence “Image-Guided and Functionally Instructed Tumor Therapies (EXC2180)”, a multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary research program that focuses on understanding tumor biology and the development of novel diagnostic and therapeutic approaches for cancer. We provide excellent training opportunities and closely collaborate with an international network of scientists, clinicians, and industry.
