Postdoctoral candidate in representation learning of video data

Updated: almost 2 years ago
Deadline: 2022-07-29T00:00:00Z

Our group is working on data-intensive problems in biomedicine with particular focus on deep learning methods and image data. We combine machine learning with statistical and other computational techniques. All projects involve collaboration with experimental and medical partners located in Cologne, Charité University Hospital Berlin and abroad.

We are looking for postdoctoral candidate to join our project on machine learning methods for quantification of video data. Our specific application is C. elegans behavior and its change depending on the genetic and environmental factors. Methods we are interested in draw from language processing and self-supervised learning. Our collaboration partners are located in Cologne and London and include medical as well as computational experts. We offer work in a stimulating, interdisciplinary environment in the heart of cosmopolitan, historical city.

-development and networking through participation in workshop and conferences both ML and biology/medicine.

Research Environment:

The University of Cologne offers a wide range of scientific disciplines and internationally leading profile areas organized in six faculties. At the Faculty of Medicine, 1,800 scientists are engaged in research, ranging from basic sciences to clinical application, as well as teaching and health care. Together with the University Hospital Cologne the faculty maintains 58 clinics, research institutes and centers. 3,400 students study in this dynamic and innovative environment. The Faculty of Medicine and the University Hospital Cologne are embedded in the scientifically highly active Rhine region. They have strong contacts to and alliances with the surrounding universities and non-university research institutions fostering scientific excellence in research and teaching.

The Center for Molecular Medicine Cologne (CMMC) is a multidisciplinary center at the University of Cologne providing a forum that brings together physician scientists with basic researchers from the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences to perform competitive basic, disease-oriented research. The mission of the CMMC is to advance the understanding of the underlying molecular and cellular mechanisms as a prelude to improving prevention, diagnosis and treatment of many common health problems. For further information, please visit www.cmmc.uni-koeln.de.

CMMC along with its partner institutes such as the Cologne Cluster of Excellence in Cellular Stress Responses in Aging-associated Diseases, Cologne Center for Genomics and Max-Planck Institute for Biology of Ageing research all located in one campus provides a vibrant scientific community. Our research group “Data science of bioimages” is placed perfectly within an environment where the basic research meets cutting edge translational science.
