The Leibniz Institute for Solid State and Materials Research Dresden – in short IFW Dresden – is a non-university research institute and a member of the Leibniz Association. The IFW employs approximately 600 people and one focus is on the training of young scientists besides enhancing fundamental and applied research development. At the highest international level, the IFW operates modern materials science on a scientific basis and makes the ob-tained results useful for the economy. The complex and interdisciplinary research work is carried out within the IFW by five scientific institutes, which are supported by a highly developed technical infrastructure. The IFW supports its employees in reconciling work and family life and regularly submits to the berufundfamilie® audit.
The Institute of Complex Materials offers within the framework of a third-party funded research project
Postdoc position (m/f/d)
from 1.10.2020 till 31.12.2021 with a weekly working time of 40 hrs (part-time is possible).
The cooperative project aims at the development of a laser-based process chain for the fabrication and functionalization of bone implants made of a novel beta-Ti alloy. The tasks of the project employee comprise studies regarding chemical and physical surface treatments of implant-relevant alloy specimens fabricated with additive manufacturing and the detailed characterization of those surface states.
Candidates holding a diploma or master degree and a doctorate degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science or materials engineering are encouraged to apply. The position requires a fundamental knowledge of metallic materials, primarily a comprehensive expertise regarding surface treatment methods for metallic implants, as well as, consolidated practical experiences with relevant physical-chemical and surface analytical characterization methods like SEM, AFM, XRD, spectroscopic methods and wettability testing. Knowledge of cell biological analytics is desirable.
We expect a high degree of independent scientific work including publication and project reporting as well as readiness for active cooperation with our project partners from the fields of surface design, cell biology and medicine.
The ability to work in a team and very good English skills are required.
The employment relationship, including remuneration, is governed by collective bargaining for the public service of the Länder. The remuneration is based upon the TV-L rules (EG 13, 100%). The IFW would like to increase the proportion of women in science. Qualified women are therefore explicitly invited to apply. Severely disabled applicants (m/f/d) are given preferential treatment if they have the same qualifications.
The project is funded by the Sächsische Aufbaubank (SAB) in the framework of the EFFRE program.
