The Leibniz Institute of Freshwater Ecology and Inland Fisheries (IGB) invites applications for a

postdoc position in Stream Ecology (m/f/d)

starting ideally on 1 April 2021. The position is based at the Department of Experimental Limnology on the shores of Lake Stechlin located 1 hour north of the city of Berlin, Germany. The initial contract is for 2 years with an option to extend it for an additional two years.

We seek to recruit an excellent and highly motivated postdoctoral scientist with an interest in ecosystem functioning and microbial dynamics associated with litter decomposition in streams. The position is part of a broad research consortium involving partners in Germany and abroad, funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) as part of the Collaborative Research Center 1439 “Multilevel response to stressor increase and release in stream ecosystems” (RESIST).

Your tasks

  • Participation in a suite of flume and field experiments designed to assess effects of multiple stressors on stream ecosystems in cultural landscapes
  • Lab analyses of samples taken during the experiments, particularly for various microbial variables
  • Data analysis, preparation of manuscripts, and presentation of results at scientific meetings
  • Close collaboration, data exchange, and mutual support within the RESIST consortium

Your profile

  • Interest in experimental stream ecosystem research
  • Doctoral degree in ecology, microbial ecology, mycology, environmental science, or a similar field
  • Excellent record of scientific achievements, demonstrated primarily by scientific publications
  • Expertise in aquatic ecosystem analysis, fungal and/or microbial ecology
  • Experience with field work on aquatic ecosystems and microbial and chemical analyses
  • Interest in integrating in a large team
  • Clean driver licence

We offer an interesting position in an international and dynamic scientific environment. This is a full-time position with 39 working hours per week.
