Postdoc position for a Bioinformatician (m/f/d) in the field of high-throughput sequencing to reveal the function of the (gut) microbiome in nutrition and medicine.

The Chair of Nutrition and Immunology and the Core Facility Microbiome of the ZIEL Institute for Food & Health at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) offer a

Postdoc position for a Bioinformatician (m/f/d) (or a person with bioinformatics background)

in the field of high-throughput sequencing to reveal the function of the (gut) microbiome in nutrition and medicine. The position is fulltime (40.1 h) and enables to work on your habilitation.

Who we are
The Chair of Nutrition and Immunology and the ZIEL Institute for Food & Health are headed by Prof. Dr. Dirk Haller. The ZIEL is a dedicated central unit of the TUM, striving to understand the functional relevance of microbiome signatures in health and disease. Therefore, we conduct microbiome research at the inter-section between nutritional science and medicine. We are equipped with state-of-the-art expertise in next-generation sequencing (NGS) and bioinformatics analysis of microbiome data (www.ziel.tum.de). This dy-namic and highly visible research theme is embedded into the Collaborative Research Center (CRC1371 -www.sfb1371.tum.de) “Microbiome Signatures”, funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG), and several other national and international research projects.

You are
a highly motivated and enthusiastic postdoc with an excellent degree in Bioinformatics, or having a solid bioinformatics background with a degree in Nutritional Science, Biology, Biotechnology or a related disci-pline. Programming skills (e.g., R, perl, phyton, etc.) are mandatory. You are willing to develop your own research project in this interdisciplinary area, dedicated to help on (personalized) biomedicine and to un-derstand the influence of the gut microbiome towards human and animal health.

We offer
a position in an interdisciplinary research facility at the interface of nutrition, microbiome research and bio-medicine. We provide well-equipped laboratories with access to other top-notch facilities (germ-free mouse house, mass spectrometry). The position is embedded in a fruitful and challenging scientific environment with a number of collaborations, also allowing to access medical studies in clinical settings.

The position is available immediately and funded for 3 years. An additional extension of 3 years allows the candidate to establish an independent research track (habilitation). Salary will be determined according to the German collective wage agreement in public service (TV-L 13). TUM is an equal opportunity employer. Therefore, women are especially encouraged to apply. Disabled persons with equivalent qualifications will be preferentially employed.

If you are interested, please send your application with CV, a brief statement of research experiences and interests, and the names and contact information of two references in a single PDF file by e-mail until De-cember 23rd, 2021 to [email protected].
